The average weight of the inhabitants of Sind and the Punjaub is undoubtedly much higher than this ; again, if we consult the works of Parkes, Letheby, Church, and other authorities on dietetics, we find that in estimating the food requirements of Europeans, these authorities adopt 150 lbs. as representing their average weight. Now it is clear that if the proposition is true, it follows? 1. That in estimating the food requirements of natives of India from what authorities state to be the requirements of Europeans, we must make allowance for difference in average weight, and 2. That the quantity of food required by such races of the natives of India as are of low average weight, is less than the quantity required by such races as are of high average weight.
